Album cover

I have been gathering inspiration from indie rock album covers that don't have the artist in the music video like mine. Therefore i decided to put the 'artist' on my poster and album cover, i didn't put the artist in the video because i was challenging the conventions of normal music videos, you will ordinarily see artists in their videos to promote themselves as musicians. An example of not doing this is David Guetta. David is on the cover on his albums therefore i wanted to use the artist on mine. Guetta's covers remind me of pop art as they are very edited, this made me want to use Andy Warhols famous technique of pop art.Another Very famous indie rock band, however dated, that use pop art in their album art work are The Beatles, this influenced me as they are very successful so i wanted my work to follow their theme.

Below is the Album i have come up with for my work due to this research.

Audience feedback

My audience decided they preferred the poster with the girl on the swing as the one with album art work on looks like it is aimed at very young children, i have therefore gone back to the image of April on the rope swing and have started to develop it further. My teacher gave me feedback on the poster and recommended i changed some things. I decided i should spell 'Weezer' as 'Weazer' to prevent copyright issues that have come up in past classes that have been problematic. I took this poster to my peers and they didn't think the whole image looks good, therefore iv'e decided to research other albums for inspiration.

Comparing my video to a real music video

The video above is by Rhianna- Only girl in the world, i took a lot of inspiration from this video as you can see by the second screen shot using a similar scene. However i used two girls as a symbol of friendship and Rhianna's video is about being a sex symbol. The lighting used in her video is very heated, calming to show sexual references, whereas mine has a much harsher light as they are innocent friends. I also chose to shoot it at a different angle and have the girls running away from the camera rather than walking across the screen, but in both the cameras are still and the people are moving through the shot. It is not very visible in these shots but also Rhianna's outfit is much more seductive and provocative, whereas the costume my characters are in are just pretty floaty summer dresses, with wellies on, to me this connotes a care free vibe to the audience within the girls and that they feel comfortable with each other.
